Forests of Ilex aquifolium
Description (English)
Communities dominated by arborescent Ilex aquifolium, relict of various forests with a field layer rich in Ilex and sometimes with Taxus (Pal. 42.A7), of the supra-Mediterranean level on various substrates. These woods correspond to the senescence stage of a forest with a undergrowth with Taxus and Ilex (belonging among others to the Ilici-Quercetum ilicis), after the fading of the tree layer. They generally form patches inside or outside forests.
